Federal Government Promotes 30 Controllers of Corrections to Assistant Controllers General

The Federal Government, through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), has approved the promotion of 30 Controllers of Corrections to the rank of Assistant Controllers General (ACG) in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). This move is a part of the government’s commitment to strengthening the leadership of the Service and aligns with the ongoing reform agenda under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to a statement by the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the promotion exercise is a testament to the government’s dedication to merit-based advancement and professional excellence. The newly promoted officers include 27 general duty personnel who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and competence in various formations across the country. Additionally, three professional officers in the fields of Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health were also elevated, in recognition of their specialized contributions to the Service.

The promotion is seen as a key step in repositioning the NCoS for greater efficiency and professionalism. The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to redouble their efforts in service delivery, strategic leadership, and the core mandates of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates. He emphasized that the promotion is not only a reward for past performance but a call to higher responsibility in line with global best practices in correctional management.

The NCoS leadership remains committed to building a motivated, disciplined, and professional workforce capable of meeting the complex demands of modern corrections and public safety. This promotion exercise is a significant step towards achieving that goal and ensuring that the Service is well-equipped to face the challenges ahead.
