NSCDC Boss Orders Officers’ Detention Over Alleged ₦5.2m Extortion
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has taken swift action by ordering the immediate detention of officers allegedly involved in extorting ₦5.2 million from a traveler. This decisive move follows a directive from the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, demanding an immediate and thorough investigation into the reported incident.
The alleged extortion, which gained public attention through a viral social media post, reportedly involved NSCDC personnel extorting the sum from a young man traveling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure.
In a statement released by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, Commandant General Audi strongly condemned the officers’ alleged actions, labeling them as unprofessional and a clear violation of the Corps’ Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedure.
Dr. Audi has directed that the implicated officers be brought to the NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja for immediate detention. Furthermore, a disciplinary committee has been established to conduct a full-scale investigation into the matter, as mandated by the Minister of Interior.
The Commandant General emphasized that the NSCDC, under his leadership, will not tolerate any form of misconduct or corruption. He assured the public that any officer found guilty after the investigation will face severe sanctions in accordance with the Public Service Rules. Dr. Audi also encouraged the public to continue collaborating with the Corps by providing relevant information, assuring them that citizens should not fear intimidation or extortion from NSCDC personnel. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding integrity and transparency within the service and vowed not to shield any officer found to be involved in corrupt practices.
