The Honorable Minister Education seeks extension of NYSC from one to two years

Olatunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has advocated for extending the required National Youth Service Corps program from one to two years.

When NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu paid him a courtesy call at his Abuja office on Friday, Alausa made this statement.

The minister also advocated for the extension of the content of the corps members’ training program for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development, according to a statement released on NYSC’s official Facebook page.

“With the expansion of NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training program content for corps members, the minister also pushed for the extension of national service from one to two years,” the statement said.

In order to address the manpower shortage in rural schools, the minister also argued for the deployment of more graduate instructors.

In order to stop certificate racketeering by certain foreign-trained graduates in West Africa, he praised NYSC’s management for their proactive and digitalized mobilization efforts.

The plan to address the persistent problem of OND part-time graduates with full-time HND who were previously excused from National Service was also praised by Alausa.
