– Sultan of Sokoto – Moon has not been sighted in Nigeria, fasting to continue

Nigerian Muslims will continue their Ramadan fast, as the crescent moon of Shawwal, which signals the end of the holy month, has not been sighted within the country. The announcement comes from the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Despite reported sightings in other countries, the NSCIA, which holds the official authority for moon sighting declarations in Nigeria, has confirmed that the moon remains unseen locally. Consequently, Muslims in Nigeria are advised to continue their fast and anticipate a further announcement from the Sultan.
This development means the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, marking the end of Ramadan, are postponed. The public is urged to remain patient and prayerful, awaiting the official declaration, as the Sultan and the NSCIA continue to monitor for the moon’s sighting.
