A 17-year-old student from Yobe State, Nafisat Abdullah Aminu, has brought immense pride to Nigeria by emerging as the top performer in English Language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.

Nafisat, a student of the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), outshone more than 20,000 students from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations, to clinch the prestigious title. Her victory is a historic feat, marking the first time a Nigerian girl has won the competition and highlighting the country’s potential for academic excellence on the world stage.

The TeenEagle competition is an internationally recognized contest that assesses English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills among students from both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries.

Nafisat’s success has sparked widespread celebration and calls for her to be officially recognized by the federal government. Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, has urged the government to honor her in a manner similar to the rewards given to the Super Falcons and D’Tigress for their sporting achievements. He also recommended that her English teacher be recognized for their efforts.

The Yobe State government has also announced plans to honor Nafisat, attributing her success to her hard work, dedication, and the state’s investment in education. Her victory is a powerful reminder that Nigerian students can compete and excel globally when provided with the right opportunities and a supportive environment.
