FG Approves N1.8tn Road Projects, Awards New Contracts

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a massive N1.8 trillion for the construction and rehabilitation of critical road projects across the country. The announcement was made following a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), signaling the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting economic growth.
The approved funds will cover both new and ongoing road projects, including major highways and interstate routes deemed vital for national development. Some of the key projects include:
Reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Phase II)
Completion of the East-West Road (Section V)
Dualization of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Highway
Rehabilitation of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway
In addition to these, the FEC also awarded new contracts to reputable construction firms to ensure timely and quality delivery. The Minister of Works, emphasized that the projects will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic activities across regions.
The N1.8tn investment is expected to create thousands of jobs, improve transportation efficiency, and attract further investments in trade and logistics. The government also assured that strict monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to ensure transparency and accountability in project execution.
Contractors are expected to mobilize to site immediately, with completion timelines set between 24 to 36 months. The Ministry of Works will provide periodic updates on the progress of the projects.
