Alarm over death threats: NAFDAC DG

Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, denounced threats against her life and the safety of agency employees and urged authorities to better protect them.
Fake pharmaceuticals products worth over N1 trillion were seized as a result of the operation, which was conducted at important drug markets in Lagos, Onitsha, and Aba. This was the largest seizure in the history of the agency.
Adeyeye bemoaned the personal toll of her work in spite of these efforts, saying she now needs 24-hour police security.
“I have two policemen living with me in Abuja and Lagos. I don’t have a life anymore. I can’t go anywhere without escorts. That’s not how I want to live, but I have no choice,” she said.
Despite threats and intimidation, the head of NAFDAC reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ridding the nation of fake medications.
